Forehead Wrinkles Could Tell You More About Heart Health Than Just Aging – Read The Full Story

Wrinkles, often considered as a scourge to beauty which ultimately age your appearance. No one likes wrinkles particularly forehead wrinkles that are undoubtedly hard to deal with.

Adding to your surprise, new study suggests that forehead wrinkles can be more than just a sign of aging – it may be a sign of cardiovascular related diseases.

Based on the new research report presented at ESC Congress 2018 – the annual conference of the European Society of Cardiology in Munich, Germany, it is found that wrinkles on the forehead may be an indication of risk death from Atherosclerosis, also termed as hardening of arteries.

early signs of aging

Most of the heart attacks is caused due to atherosclerosis and is regarded as major contribution. Yolande Esquirol, lead researcher and the associate professor of occupational health at the University Hospital of Toulouse in France said that heavy wrinkles is a red flag for clogged arteries.

He further said in his statement that, “it is not easy to see or feel risk factors like high cholesterol or hypertension”. He also said that his team explored forehead wrinkles as a marker since it’s very simple and clearly visual.

Just looking at someone’s forehead can indicate you an alarm, then an advice to lower the risk of heart disease can be given.

Heart Disease

Another study done by the researchers of France reveal that people with numerous deep forehead wrinkles were more likely to die from heart disease compare to those without forehead wrinkles.

According to expert’s findings, it is the most cheapest and easy way for GPs to spot people at a high risk of heart strokes and attacks.

Scientists examined a group of 3200 working adults of age 32, 42, 52 and 62 in the study. Each participants are carefully examined by the physicians and they all were assigned a score based on the number of wrinkles they had and the depth of those wrinkles. Scoring “zero” means small number of wrinkles while score “three” means numerous deep wrinkles.

Researchers followed participants for next 20 years. Various causes were responsible for the death of 233 participants over that time. 15.2 percent scored two or three wrinkles, 6.6 percent scored one wrinkles and 2.1 percent had no wrinkles those who died during study period.

In the study, people who scored one wrinkles had slightly higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease than those with no wrinkles.

Those who scored two or three wrinkles nearly had 10 times greater risk of dying from disease even after adjustment for age, education, gender, smoking, status, blood pressure, diabetes, heart rate and lipid levels.

Yolande esquirol, the associated professor stated, “the higher wrinkles you score, the more your cardiovascular mortality risk increases.”

Why Does It Take Place?

According to researchers, blood vessels in the forehead may be more sensitive to plaque build-up since they are very tiny which in turn, could signal ageing of one vessel.

Additionally, changes in the collagen protein and oxidative stress seem to play vital role in atherosclerosis and deep wrinkles on forehead.

Examining forehead wrinkles can be an early indication as well as low-cost way to determine someone’s risk for health disease. Just by looking onto someone’s forehead could give you an alarm of upcoming heart diseases.

The new findings reveal that presence or absence of forehead wrinkles is an indirect insight into the future and could potentially give an alarm to people of cardiovascular diseases which is more than a skin deep.

Another several factors resulting the appearance of wrinkles on your forehead can be:

  • Maximum exposure to ultraviolet rays of sun

When it comes to wrinkles, there is saying that “you are what you eat” is actually true. Based on the 2007 research, diet is certainly responsible for skin aging. Researchers have found that the increased consumption of vitamin C and linolenic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) greatly reduces the risk factor of dry skin.

Vitamin C rich foods help lowering the risk of wrinkle whereas a diet high in carbs and fats increases the risk of getting wrinkles and skin atrophy.
